Brand-New PS5 Console Update is Live Now

A new PlayStation 5 update started rolling out in late October 2026. Designated as version 26.07-14.20.00, the latest release appeared without much fanfare and introduced a single PS5 firmware change.

Larger or otherwise substantial PS5 updates occasionally get announced ahead of their release. For the most part, however, Sony rolls out patches without prior notice, publishing their release notes only as the updates themselves become available. The company followed that approach to the letter with the latest PS5 update, which officially became available for download on October 21.

Sony's Latest PS5 Changelog Touts Vague Improvements to Messages

The changelog attached to the late October 2026 patch includes just one item, promising improvements to PS5 messages. Exactly what those improvements are is unclear. Exactly what those improvements entail is unclear. The same entry also mentions improved "usability on some screens," again without providing any further details.

The last major PS5 update debuted on September 16, introducing a handful of changes covering image quality, voice chat, and the Welcome Hub. Identified by version number 26.06-14.00.00, the release enabled enhanced PSSR image quality by default on the PS5 Pro, added an on-screen indicator identifying who is speaking during voice chats, and introduced a Community Activity widget highlighting trending and popular games. Sony also made several region-specific changes to the console's Bluetooth functionality, packing them all with its usual slate of performance and stability improvements.
