UPDATE 21ST OCTOBER: This update has now been detailed by CD Projekt Red, and it's a big one, bringing dual-wielding, customisable cyberware, cross-platform mod support and more.
ORIGINAL STORY 20th OCTOBER: CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a free update to coincide with the release of anime series Edgerunners 2 on Netflix.
Specifically, the new update is being released 22nd October on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X - a Switch 2 version "will follow shortly", CDPR mentioned. The update is to "introduce a range of new items and features to the game, including content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2," CDPR said in a press release.
At the moment, there doesn't appear to be any more detail about the update to be had, though a livestream is planned for tomorrow, 21st October, at 5pm CEST (4pm BST), to detail what's in it.
The second season of Edgerunners is available to stream on Netflix now, and according to a review on our sister site IGN, is off to a tremendous start. The sentiment around the series was already strong from a very successful debut for Edgerunners a couple of years ago, and CDPR and animation studio Trigger appear to have built on that.
The renewed Cyberpunk activity is likely to have another bolstering effect on Cyberpunk 2077 sales, which earlier this year passed a remarkable 40 million-sold milestone. We'll bring you more details about the Cyberpunk update, and our thoughts on Edgerunners 2, as soon as we can.
