The Madden Curse nearly claimed its newest victim last night, but a medical

It’s only week two of the NFL 2025-26 regular season, but the infamous Madden Curse nearly struck earlier than ever. In the middle of the game between the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, Chicago QB Caleb Williams, the Madden 27 cover star, went down with what seemed like a horrific leg injury. Williams was carted off the field with a towel over his head, which almost always indicates a player’s season is over.

However, in a shocking turn of events, it appears as though Williams might have escaped the sticky clutches of the Madden Curse, for now.

Caleb Williams Seemingly Survives His Brush With The Madden Curse

The Madden Curse has been an enjoyable fan theory for nearly two decades, but it’s never been guaranteed that a Madden cover star will implode the year they don the cover of the new game. Tom Brady, Calvin Johnson, and Patrick Mahomes have all proven that the Madden Curse doesn’t affect every single cover athlete for the franchise. Of course, when you see the current cover star go down in gruesome fashion, it’s hard not to be a small believer in the curse.

Caleb Williams had even the staunchest doubters of the Madden Curse rethinking their stance, as it truly seemed like the quarterback was at least done for a sizable portion of the NFL season with a catastrophic hamstring injury. As Williams was running for a first down near the endzone, he went down in a strange motion and was in agonizing pain on the field. This also occurred after a non-contact injury, which is never a good sign.

Even with Williams being carted off the field and Twitter doctors stating his year was over, the early indications from his medical tests are extremely promising. According to multiple NFL insiders and Bears head coach Ben Johnson, Caleb Williams is currently, at most, week-to-week with a mild hamstring injury. There’s even hope he can suit up in week three against the Philadelphia Eagles in a Monday Night game.

While we will have to wait and see just how much the injured hamstring affects Williams’ play, this is being called the “best-case scenario” for the situation. Hamstring injuries are notoriously difficult for athletes, as they can linger for months despite the best rehab practices.

Obviously, this is terrific news for Chicago Bears fans, but it looks like the Madden Curse nipped Williams in the heels this past week. We’ll have to wait and see whether this was just laying the groundwork for the curse to work its dark magic in later weeks, or whether Williams can bounce back and keep defying the curse, as he did in week one.
